Yongin on the map

Yongin is a fast-growing Gyeonggi city south of Seoul, home to two of Korea's most-visited attractions — Everland and the Korean Folk Village — and now a rapidly developing center of the country's semiconductor industry.

History

Though the area has been settled since at least the fifth century, Yongin remained largely rural until it was granted city status in March 1996. Since then it has recorded some of the fastest population growth of any city in Korea, driven first by suburban housing development and more recently by major investment from Samsung and SK Hynix, which are building large-scale semiconductor manufacturing clusters in the city that are expected to make Yongin a global chipmaking hub in the coming years.

  • Everland, Korea's largest theme park, opened in 1976 (originally as Yongin Farmland) and operated by Samsung C&T; it was the first park in East Asia to offer a free-ranging lion safari and is home to T Express, one of the world's longest wooden roller coasters.
  • Korean Folk Village, an open-air museum that opened in 1974 as Korea's first, recreating a late-Joseon-period village with over 260 traditional buildings, craft demonstrations, and performances.

Food

Yongin's Baekam neighborhood is known for Baekam sundae, a style of Korean blood sausage distinguished by its filling of meat rather than blood, giving it a milder flavor than typical sundae.

Getting there

The Shinbundang Line subway reaches Yongin from Gangnam Station in about 25 minutes, and the Bundang Line offers a second subway connection; GTX express rail service completed in 2025 has further cut travel times. By road, Yongin is roughly 30 to 40 minutes from Seoul via the Gyeongbu or Yongin-Seoul Expressways, and buses run directly to Everland and the Folk Village.

How long

Everland and the Korean Folk Village are each full-day destinations on their own, so Yongin suits either a single-focus day trip or, for visitors wanting to see both plus Caribbean Bay, an overnight stay.
