Chungcheong

Jecheon제천

A lakeside base for exploring Cheongpung Lake and the cave country around neighbouring Danyang.

Population

About 130,000.

Fun fact

Jecheon sits on Cheongpung Lake, formed when a dam was built across the Namhangang River.

Jecheon on the map

Jecheon sits close to Cheongpung Lake, and works well as either a destination in its own right or a base for exploring nearby Danyang's caves.

Highlights

  • Cheongpung Lake, about 40 minutes from Jecheon — cycle the lakeside paths, or take the 90-minute tourist cruise between Janghoe (Danyang) and Cheongpung.
  • The Cheongpung Lake Monorail and cable car, both climbing to the summit of Bibongsan for lake views.
  • Access to Woraksan National Park, for hiking.

Getting there

Hourly bus services connect Seoul's Express Bus Terminal to Jecheon, taking about an hour.

How long

Jecheon is often combined with Danyang, a short distance further along the lake, into a single day-trip or overnight covering both.
